Fall Decor Idea House Part 2

Welcome to Part 2 of the Fall Decor Idea House! This time we are touring the dining room, kitchen, and small vintage bathroom off the kitchen. You’ll be surprised at some of the re-purposed items. Throughout this home, done by several decorators, you’ll see how they used old wood planks in so many different ways. You will even see how they used them in the dining room. You’d think that with such a formal setting, they wouldn’t work, but they do!

Here’s a view of the dining room both to the right and then to the left. Do you see any re-purposed items?

The buffet to the left is actually an old dresser. A door was removed (or perhaps missing) and they added baskets to the shelving. Also, the table has old posts for legs.

On the table they have used multi-layered fabrics along with placemats and large flat gold plastic leaves. It truly is a mixture of gold, silver, salvaged wood and glass. As an extra touch of gold, they wrapped the stems of the wine glasses with gold wire.

There’s so much detail to this table that it’s hard to take it all in! Notice the candles that are embellished with upholstery tacks. Now, that’s quick and easy to do!

#1  Use a recycled sheet of paper and folded it for the placement of the tacks. This way it will be even all the way around. Mark off where you want your tacks to go. I used 6 tacks for this candle. (8 works, too)

#2  Push the tacks through at the edge of the paper.

#3 Remove the paper and you’re done! Everything is even all the way around.

Upholstery tacks come in silver, bronze, and gold, along with other variations. I used the plain bronze ones. They used shiny gold tacks. Pretty easy, right?

Look at the old wood planks down the middle of the table. At first thought, you’d think it wouldn’t work, but with the pair of wooden finials, and other wood items, it all works together.

A close look at the place-setting shows the large, flat gold plastic leaves (top left in picture below) that add extra glitz and texture to the table setting. Gold metal leaves adorn the napkin.

Next, we travel to the kitchen. Would you think to re-purpose old wooden car ramps? They used them on each side of the stove and tied them together above with salvaged metal for extra kitchen storage. The spice rack is re-purposed hardware drawers. Now that’s total reuse and re-purpose to the max, I think!

The vintage wooden ironing board fits into the inset. The added hook gives a place to hang an apron.

More salvaged wood!  Yes, in the kitchen you find it used as window valances!

The cute red-topped kitchen island is a re-purposed workbench. It sits on a wheeled car so it’s easily moved.

The last room for this post is the small bathroom next to the kitchen. Both the ledge and what is behind the metal wall decor is salvaged wood. This bathroom has an old-fashion corner sink with the plumbing that shows. To hide the plumbing, they used corrugated metal for a skirt.

Don’t think this is the end of ideas. We still have several rooms to explore with more vintage re-purposed items, fall decor, and salvaged wood. I  hope you got some new ideas from this tour. Don’t forget to come back for Part 3. Be sure to check Fall Decor Idea House Part 1 if you missed it!
