Spring Idea House 2016 Part 1

Yes, Spring is here and it’s time for the Spring Idea House 2016. I’m excited to bring this to you as there are so many beautiful and fun ideas shared along with lots of repurposed vintage pieces . Several decorators work together on this project three times a year and each time I think it can’t be better than the last, but it is!

The new trends in this house include grey being the new neutral, lots of floral patterns, terrariums, and an energetic pop of coral color.

Because there are so many ideas, this idea house will be covered in four parts. This first part will cover the outside and front porch.

Now, on to the Spring ideas!  The outside container gardens and flower boxes are done in the colors of white, pink and lavender. Pussy willows and birch logs accent the floral creations and give them height and drama.

….just a bit more whimsical

Tall grasses, pink flowers, and trailing vines in this container, make the outside fireplace a focal point.

This front porch is set for a Spring Garden Luncheon. Small terracotta pots hold the napkins which are rolled up to look like red roses! They are so cute and certainly fit it with theme of the table. Go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWuRhm99LIg to watch the video on how to make these roses.

The terra-cotta saucers make nice coasters for the cups while the silverware is decorated with ribbon, an artificial flower, and placed in the wooden tool boxes. They look like flowers just blooming.

The table linens are colorful table runners on top of a roll of moss used lengthwise on the table.

A variety of colorful dishtowels and ribbon decorate each chair. These same ideas are easy to do with your own decor for a garden party!

Here’s a closeup of the silverware in the wooden tool box.

An interesting and one-of-a-kind chandelier is made from upside down birdbaths, chargers, and an a silk wreath. Even doing a smaller version would look spectacular!

In the background, the same table runner makes a lovely valance for the window and the napkins become an accent on each end!

An easy- to-do arrangement idea…….  just tall grasses and small pinwheels.

A primitive chest without doors works for displaying colorful Spring items.

Who said solar lights are just for the outdoors? Stick them in foam in a planter and placed where it gets lots of sunlight. In the evening they light up the porch window.

Over on the other side of the porch is another arrangement of red roses in a small metal wheelbarrow! So simple to do!

This is just the start! You’ll find so many new ideas that can be incorporated in your own decor. Hope you stay tuned for Spring Idea House Part 2 coming up soon!

Whimsical Spring Arrangements

The cute little bunnies, ducks, and chicks that you see in stores are hard to resist. Well, last year I bought a few on clearance (75% off)  and this year made a couple whimsical spring arrangements with the bunnies and ducks.

Whimsical Spring Arrangements grandparentsplus.com

For the first one, I used a vintage berry carrier. By just placing some artificial grass on the bottom, adding the three different size bunnies, and placing artificial succulents here and there, the arrangement is complete.

I used this arrangement as a centerpiece.  Notice those little bunnies on each placesetting….those I got for 12 cents each! I happened to find them at 90% off of sale price! Such a deal!

Use those whimsical animals perched on a candle holder and alternate with green moss balls.

The little feather chicks in a nest were purchased some years ago in Germany. I just love the detail. They’re cute to use with a place-card.

Perhaps this gives you some ideas on how to use those bunnies, chicks, and ducks in a whimsical spring arrangement of your own.

Now, watch those sales and take advantage of them for next year!

Spring Idea House Tour 2015 (Part 1)

Spring Idea House Tour (Part 1) grandparentsplus.com

It’s Spring! (at least that’s what the calendar says) Time for another Spring Idea House Tour 2015 (Part 1)! This house is decorated by designers three times a year to highlight repurposed items, decorating trends, new items for sale, along with loads of inspiration for spring! I’m sure you’ll find many ideas for your own home.

Nothing is left undecorated! Even the garage windows are hung with burlap and twine roping. An array of colorful rain boots all lined up, with some used as vases, look so spring-like! Now, this makes a fun entrance! Perhaps, it would be great as an early spring accent on your flower boxes or near your front door or do you decorate your garage, too?

This old wooden painted trunk is stenciled with “Sunshine” and filled with an artificial spring arrangement. I can visualize this using a small wooden box with a similar arrangement used indoors. Can’t you?

Spring Idea House Tour 2015 (Part 1) grandparentsplus.com

The window boxes are filled with a spring arrangement as well! Notice that they use rolled birch bark, too.

As you enter the front porch, a vintage workbench with candles in a glass cylinder are wrapped with burlap and lace.

This candle idea would work for Christmas by just adding a red bow or red berries.

Also on the porch, the hanging wire spheres are accented with moss balls and decorated with spring floral buds. Wouldn’t this be pretty for a wedding, too!

Here’s another unique idea……   Use chain entwined with decorative ribbon as curtain tie-backs!

Spring Idea House Tour 2015 (Part 1) grandparentsplus.co

This is a re-purposed antique item. Do you know what it is? It is a laundry drying rack hung in the corner of the porch and used as a plant accent! I actually have one of these in the garage somewhere. Got to find it, now. I think I’ll try using it in my laundry room.

Lights are strung out from this sphere in the center of the ceiling. Artificial greenery sets it off.

A large lantern is hung on the wall and filled with a vintage picture and a bottle used as a candle holder.

The dining room is next……

Notice the tablecloth is made of burlap. Tiers of ruffles finish off the look.

You see lots of textured layers used for this table.  Burlap tablecloth, textured fabric runner, pink floral placemat, and a circle burlap placemat make an interesting tablesetting. The napkins are simply tied with twine.  Look carefully as the napkins actually look like a pink flower! On the stem of the wine glass, decorative colored wire is wrapped around the stem and shaped into a leaf.

A green napkin ring finishes off the textured runner.

Back pillows for the chairs are made from kitchen towels.

Spring Idea House Tour 2015 (Part 1) grandparentsplus.co

On the center of the table, the flower arrangements and candles are at varied heights. Stacked, finished chunks of wood make it easy to alter the heights.

Above the sideboard, metal art is layered with colorful artwork. Moss balls are placed on the candle-holder instead of using candles.

The chandelier is  accented with several green balls.

The stained-glass window above the buffet is decorated with vinyl window cling. It sure looks real and gives nice color to that area.

The tour is not done! More coming….   Spring Idea House 2015 (Part 2) and Spring Idea House 2015 (Part 3) posts with more spring decorating ideas.

Spring Idea House 2014 – Part 1

Spring Idea House 2014 Part 1 grandparentsplus.com

The Spring Idea House 2014 in our area is always a treat for creative minds! There are  new decorating twists and ideas to start your own creative juices flowing. This old house is redone each season by several decorators and  open for tours in Spring, Fall and Christmas. I always look forward to going to be inspired! The home reflects the current trends and mixes them with vintage finds.

There are so many ideas that I will take you through separate areas of the house for each post. This is Part 1!

The first part is the porch entrance. As you walk in there is an old rustic table set in turquoise and greens.

Notice the cute bird cages on the table and the turquoise trivets used as coasters…..

Spring Idea House Part 1 grandparentsplus.com

I noticed that they used floral foam wrapped in a sheet of artificial moss. Vials are filled with astromeria and stuck into the floral foam along with rocks and an artificial bird. OK! I can do that!  I knew I had most of the supplies at home.

Spring Idea House Part 1 grandparentsplus.com

Here is my version although I didn’t use the vials, but just stuck the artificial greens right into the floral foam.

Spring Idea House Part 1 grandparentsplus.com

Here’s my version on my table. I loved the narrow centerpiece as my table is long and narrow!

Spring Idea House Part 1 grandparentsplus.com

On their table, they used a simple idea of brown paper wrapped around a napkin attached by a pin and used as place cards.

Spring Idea House 2014 Part 1 grandparentsplus.com

This display was on a side table of the porch. The candles are wrapped in an artificial palm leaf. They used artificial Boxwood balls throughout the house on candle holders, in cages, window boxes, and hanging from lights.

A salvaged window is hung as art with metal butterflies added as an accent.
