Upcycled Can to Vase!

The definition of an “upcycle” is  to “reuse (discarded objects or material) in such a way as to create a product of a higher quality or value than the original”. This Upcycled Can to Vase certainly fits that description. Not only are you reusing the can, but, also, reusing a corrugated cardboard box! It make a perfect textured vase for a flower arrangement.

Here are the materials I used, but you can change the color, ribbon, and flowers to suit your need.

I used a 15 oz can, ribbon, sunflowers, and a piece of corrugated cardboard.  Not pictured is spray paint.

Take a piece of corrugated cardboard and cut just a bit larger than the can in height and long enough to go around the can. Tear off the top piece of paper to show the corrugated texture. Some of the paper will stick so use a damp cloth and rub down the ribs to loosen the paper and then use tweezers to get the extra paper off. Let the cardboard dry. Once dry, spray paint.

When the paint has dried, hot glue the corrugated piece around the can. No need to remove the label as it won’t show.

Next, add a textured piece of ribbon or burlap and hot glue in place. ( a bow is optional).

Now, arrange the flowers in the “upcycled can to a vase”. Use floral foam, if desired, to hold the flowers.

For other seasons, paint the corrugated cardboard a different color. Then, and add ribbon and flowers to coordinate with your color scheme.

If using for an outside event, fill the bottom of the can with rocks to add weight so it doesn’t blow over. Now, wasn’t that easy and inexpensive?

The sunflowers are from the Dollar Tree so it really is an inexpensive floral arrangement!

So, don’t throw those cans or boxes away! Now, you know how to upcycle them!

Have fun!
