Vignette with Dried Hydrangeas

I do enjoy using my dried hydrangeas in arrangements! This hydrangea variety is a new one that I bought  two years ago, but it didn’t produce any flowers until last year. Oh, they are so delicate and vivid in color. After picking them, I made a vignette with dried hydrangeas on the English antique side table in my bedroom. The color has not faded one bit through the winter. They look as lovely as the day I made the arrangement.

I picked up the cute pitcher at an antique store. I had intended to strip it down to just the copper, but instead I left it with the chrome and copper . I liked the variations of color and texture.

The elongated hydrangeas worked well with the narrow pitcher. I was also limited with the dried blooms so needed something to fit the small number of hydrangeas I had available. Next fall, there will be more!

This dried hydrangea came from the variety called Pinky Winky! Yes, that’s the real name! The bushes do need some care as hydrangeas do not flower on old wood.  On this variety, you need to cut back the old blooms about half-way in the fall or early spring and the new growth will then produce flowers again. Always ask your nursery on how to care for your hydrangea bushes.

In the Washing state area, I’m always envious of the variety of hydrangea bush colors. I wish we could grow some of them in our area. Their vivid colors are so striking.  Alas, our zone and tough winters are too hard on them. So, instead of lamenting the fact that I can’t grow them, I’m happy to have this new, favorite variety. I wonder how many flowers will come this next fall.

Do you grow hydrangeas?
