Fall Decor Idea House Part 3

Do you remember from Part 1 that this Fall Decor Idea House featured a lot of salvaged wood? Well, in this part 3 of the series, you’ll see more uses for it. Perhaps one will inspire you to do something similar in your own home. Part 3 takes you into the stairway, wine room, photo gallery room, guest room, and bathroom. Wow, that’s a lot of territory and ideas so let’s get started!

Fall Decor Idea House Part 3 a

In the photo above you see some ways they used salvaged wood.  In the stairway, they used salvaged wood planks that set off the art work . The stairway is very narrow and tall and this arrangement looked awesome.

Along with the artwork in the stairway,  they used salvaged wood for the window valance there, too!

Salvaged wood makes an interesting display as wall art in the wine room. Look how they used pallets! There’s a large piece of salvaged wood on the top for the table with the wine storage between the pallets. Fall Decor Idea House Part 3 grandparentsplus.com

Look what they have done with wine corks! Bet you won’t throw any away again!

Fall Decor Idea House Part 3 grandparentsplus.com

There are wine corks glued around a styrofoam ball, displayed in a bowl and shadow box. They’re in a hanging cage with a lit wine bottle, too. Oh, don’t forget the salvaged wood with wine corks as hooks along with the interesting wine bottle and wood display. Enough wine cork ideas for you? Start saving the wine corks! Actually, I think you can buy them in bulk, too.

Next up is the photo gallery room!

In this area of the room, there are various mixed wood frames. The shelves, of course, are made from salvaged wood and the table is an old vintage barrel with a glass top. Artwork is incorporated in and among the family pictures. On one picture that has a background of wallpaper, they used glass markers to write phrases. Notice on the upper left corner how an old insulator serves as a wall hook.

Two other areas of the photo gallery room look very different. One area uses all black frames.

The frames are tightly grouped together to look like one big wall collage. Notice how some frames pictures are scrapbook paper; others are wallpaper. Stickers, also, create framed word art. Two frames are wheat pictures. Go to grandparentsplus.com/wheat-pictures  to see directions on how to make these. (They make a wonderful gift.)

The black metal lights tie in so well with the black frames.

The next wall is all mixed metal frames.

Now to the guest room….

In the guest room, the bookshelf takes the place of a headboard. Alongside of the blue chair is a side table which is a vintage metal workbench. Vintage shutters become interesting wall decor and the artwork is layered over salvaged metal expandable mesh. Fun to see unusual things reused in such interesting ways!

Finally, we go to the small upstairs bathroom…  Remember, these old homes have very small bathrooms, but it is big on ideas!

Fall Decor Idea House Part 3 grandparentsplus.com

The upper left picture shows vintage library card drawers turned into wall shelving! (Oh dear, I think I remember these in school!) To hold the toilet paper, a metal basket is hung on the wall with a piece of rebar to keep the roll of paper in place.

The salvaged wood piece, with three metal owl hooks, acts as a towel hook above the sink.

On the last picture, this metal shelving unit serves as bathroom storage over the stool.

Which idea did you like the best? Hard to choose, isn’t it! After seeing all the re-purposed items, you start to look at every vintage piece you see in a different way.

I hope you enjoyed seeing these rooms with all the salvaged wood ideas along with many unique vintage re-purposed pieces. Remember, this is not the end. I have one more post with the living room and master bedroom. Some of the items you will see in Part 4 will amaze you, I promise!

Spring Idea House Tour 2015 (Part 2)

Spring Idea House Tour 2015 Part 2 grandparentsplus.com

This is another look at the Spring Idea House Tour 2015 (Part 2).  Remember,  designers decorate this house three times a year to highlight re-purposed items, decorating trends, new items for sale, along with loads of inspiration for spring! I’ll take you into the kitchen, small bathroom, hallway and one of the bedrooms. Are you ready for more inspiration?

In the kitchen, there is a garden theme. Above the kitchen sink, they draped a textured fabric runner with burlap-wrapped floral accents in the corners. This is the same runner as on the dining room table in Part 1!

A closer look……

Part of a white picket fence makes a backdrop for floral plates hanging above the stove. Pots attached at the base of the fence contain flowers and kitchen tools.

Another window in the kitchen has a metal tray filled with herbs and other plants. Small moss balls, and other display items give interest and color.

In the downstairs bathroom, this mirror was such a great piece. They took a frame, inserted corrugated metal, and added a mirror in the center.

In the stairwell, leading to the bedrooms, this salvaged window looks great used as wall art.

As you move up the stairs, a garden trellis with decorative tins and frames is also used as wall art. Behind the trellis, the painted green wall makes the trellis stand out.

The window at the top of the stairs uses a coat rack for a valance.

For those of you who have families that never put the toilet paper on the TP holder, this is for you! Use a basket hung on a hook and there’s no problem, right? Great idea for the bathroom, don’t you think?

This bedroom is very well done with a bicycle theme. A rusty bicycle is hung over the bed with a green plant in the basket. I don’t know where you might find one like it! It is a unique find!

Twisted floral wire makes this inspirational saying on the wall.

This salvaged bike wheel is now a message center.

Shower curtains, with a bicycle theme, become window treatments. Next time you’re looking for curtains, check out the bath department!

Salvaged shelf brackets hold up shelving with several glass vases used as window decor.

Wall art coordinates with the theme!

Front Porch Tour

Welcome to my front porch. It is a place where I love to sit and take in all the nature around me. There are hummingbirds, turkeys, deer, and I’ve even seen a bear! We live in a wooded area so nature is all around us. Sitting quietly and watching with a cup of coffee in the morning or a  cold glass of lemonade in the afternoon is so relaxing and refreshing!

When we built this house 10 years ago, one thing I wanted was a large front porch. It is something I’ve really enjoyed! Let me take your on a tour.

The front door entrance is at an angle into the house. On the left side is a $5 bench (I found at a garage sale) that I painted white. The little concrete dog was a piece that my dad found and always had at their front door. Now, it greets people at my door!

Front Porch Tour grandparentsplus.com

To the right, I have an antique red wheelbarrow. In the summer it holds ferns and in the winter I put evergreens and birch logs. An old weather vane adds some height.

Front Porch Tour grandparentsplus.com

Further to the right is a wood burning stove. This was the working stove in the cottage that was originally on this property. The cottage needed so much repair so we tore it down, but saved the stove.

Peeking through the ferns and window boxes, you can see the vintage wrought iron table and chairs.

I had a wicker sofa and chairs, but the squirrels chewed on it so I went with wrought iron! You can see the redo of this set at Vintage Wrought Iron Table and Chairs Redo.

Now, to the left of the entrance on the front porch……

The little antique table and chairs is a French Barrel Garden Chair Set (I think that is what it is called). I found it at a little out-of-the-way antique store where a woman was bringing it in to sell. I asked the price and bought it right away. It was a steal! You often see these in garden magazines.

The rocking chair is where you will find me in the morning with a cup of coffee! It has the best view of the hummingbirds and the hosta garden.

Imagine yourself sitting on my front porch in these rocking chairs and this is what you see close up.

Two of the hummingbird feeders hang from the vintage Dutch girl weather vane. I had to add a bit of “Dutch” since we are of that heritage! I found them in Alpharetta, Georgia at an antique store that was closing. I’m sure, because they were a Dutch girl, not everyone wanted it so I snagged them at a very reasonable price.

So that’s my front porch tour. I hope it gave you some ideas for using some old vintage pieces. If you want a tour of my hosta garden, go to Hosta Haven! I have over 60 varieties!

If you’re in the area, drop by for a glass of lemonade on my front porch, of course!

Idea House – Part 4

Idea House Part 4 grandparentsplus.com

This is the fourth and  last post for the Fall Idea House. It is  a mixture of fun, unique ideas! You’ll find lots of inspiration for fall decorating and entertaining. Some ideas are easy to do and others take more effort in finding just the right piece. Nevertheless, it will open your eyes to some new ways of looking at what some consider “junk”.

I loved this little squirrel sitting  at each place-setting with lots of wooden acorns.

Idea House Part 4

In this next table-setting, notice the metal piece used under the centerpiece. Take an interesting metal wall hanging and use it for a great look on the table!

Love the simple texture that the industrial piece of white plastic gives under this glass-topped table!

Idea House Part 4 grandparentsplus.com

Ever thought of using old frames to accent a place setting? These were each painted a different color and each one was a different shape .Idea House Part 4 grandparentsplus.com

Idea House Part 4 grandparentsplus.com

Notice the different colored glasses, too!

If you have a fireplace that is not in use, try this extravagant look!

Idea house part 4 grandparentsplus.com

Looks beautiful with all the lanterns lit!

This next arrangement has  3 different heights of glass pieces. Add a few fall decorations and you have a great looking arrangement for your coffee table or use as a table centerpiece.

Idea House Part 4 grandparentsplus.com

My copycat version is this……

Since I didn’t have a large silver tray, I used a mirror and laid it flat on top of the table. My pieces are scaled down a bit for the size of the mirror, but the idea is the same. The key is three varied heights for the main pieces.

Idea House Part 4 grandparentsplus.com

Now, this is unique and different! Collect old wooden ironing boards and put together for a one of a kind shelving unit! Don’t think the Buddha fits in this vintage collection, do you?

Idea House Part 4

Don’t just think that small stools are for the floor or shelf somewhere. Place them on the wall and use them as shelves!

I don’t know the name of this next item, but it probably sifted something. Adding a dried arrangement changes its look into a special wall hanging.

Idea House Part 4

Adding a glass top to an unusual metal laundry basket makes a great bedside table! I love how so many things are repurposed and made new again like the headboard, too!

Decorated lanterns make a wonderful display, too. Here is their version….

Here is mine using the same mirror as an accent……..

Did you see some ideas that you could do?

I always get inspired by other people’s creations and then make them my own!

Hope you enjoyed this four-part Fall Idea House Tour. I’ll be back with the Christmas Idea House Tour, too!
